Blondie - Heart of Glass

This is the very first pop song I remember being aware of in my childhood. Not from my parents' music collection, but from the wider world around me. Released in 1979, I would have been 7 years old.

I always liked the name "Blondie" then because I had blond hair. (Same shade of platinum as Debbie Harry's in high summer ...)

Never knew it was called "Heart of Glass" (click for lyrics) till years later ...

Marianne Faithfull - Broken English

This song's title comes from a quote from Bader-Meinhoff leader Astrid Proll - "the only language you need is broken English"...

Michael Jackson - Thriller

This is the best (version) I could find ...

Michael Jackson's a good actor. (Think how wooden other pop stars e.g. Madonna have been!!) What a waste. If he'd had less surgery and made the effort, he could have made some fantastic movies...

Michael Jackson - Beat It

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

First Moonwalk!

This is the famous Motown 25 performance.

Streisand - Evergreen

Ever seen this one? Anyone??

We're back to 1977 or so.

She appears to be singing "live" in the studio, if you know what I mean.

This would be from her supposed "remake" of A Star is Born.

Streisand (Yentl) Papa Can you hear me

Only person alive to star in two "musicals" ... & manage to be the only one singing properly (unless you count Cris Cristoffersons addled efforts in Star is Born) in either. Genius, babs! Sheer genius!!

Barbra Streisand - Woman in Love

Brace yourself bc it's going well 80s here.

Anyone ever seen this before?

I think she looks best in the Ryan O'Neil clip "What's up Doc?" 1972/thereabouts.

Have to say, this song hardly shows off her voice though, does it?

Toto - Africa

The two Toto tracks up here sound pretty similar. But Africa, to my mind is the best of the two.

Why, in the distant olden days of the early 80s, did spectacle-wearers always seem to choose windowpane-sized lenses behind which to barricade their eyes-??

Note the diligent Spanish subtitles. Why do we never get English subtitles when Spanish music's played over here?

Answer: bc it hardly ever is!!

Toto - Rosanna

Now here's a true blast from the past. I'd never seen this video before and haven't heard the song (not as I'd remember) since the 80s!

The "Rosanna" of the words is Desperately Seeking Susan actress Rosanna Arquette.

Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart

I think Bonnie must've put out a new collection of her old hits or something bc she's been all over TV and radio in the past weeks. This, however, is what she's most famous for. Wasn't the song written by Meatloaf? Or did he merely give it his approval. Whatever: it sounds like a Meatloaf kinda song...

Stranglers - Golden Brown

How long was it gonna be till this one made its appearance.

'Case you come from some far-off part of the world with different drugs (but where-??) the "golden brown" is heroin.

Sugababes - Shape

Isn't this a haunting melody ??

Only thing Sugababes have done that I've really liked is this one ...

I just love it.

All Saints - Pure Shores (Music from The Beach)

All Saints - Black Coffee

This has ever such a catchy tune. Reminds me of one long, hot summer...

... & @ that time - didn't even know what the song was called !...

The City of London by night. (Financial district.) Cool and blue. Quiet and near deserted. Is wonderfully portrayed. I think so. I love London. This is All Saints' very best. I love this.

All Saints - Never Ever (UK Version)

The differences between this and the one below are in the video only (far as I can tell)...

This video's FAR better than the mediocre anyband/anywhere American version. At least you can remember some of it afterwards ...

All Saints - Never Ever ("USA Version")

All Saints were/are the only girl group I really like:

Oasis - Hello (Live)

This is the one I was telling you about, Debs!

An American Breaks Wind (Longwindedly ...)

KLF 5-minute Docu

The KLF burned £1,000,000 cash in front of a group of invited journalists and filmed the experience.

This might explain a little of why ...

A potted history of the KLF, the K Foundation etc.

Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger

For Debs

This was flagged up as the "US version" - but it's the same promo vid we got over here.

Watch this
and if you can't see why they were constently compared to the Beetles you never will!!

Oasis - Average Concert

I put this in as it's such a banal mid-concert moment ... kinda moment Oasis don't want recorded for their posterior ...

REM - Everybody Hurts

In my opinion, this is their best.

Robbie Williams - Feel

This one made me go all weepie one afternoon when I was during a week of unique "clean" ...

"I've got so much life

Running through my veins

Going to waste ..."

Silent Movie

Modern but classic :: starring my friend Edyta ...

Would you believe this was shot on a humble digital camera-?!?

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

This was on my first ever album ... the Christmas compilation "Now That's What I Call Music... 2" -!! They're up to Now 56 or something now ..!

Eurythmics - There Must Be An Angel

Love this song ...

Queen - I Want to Break Free...

This is their entertainingest vid ...

Making of "I'm Going Slightly Mad" ...

Apologies for the poor quality picture ...

Queen - I'm Going Slightly Mad

See how underweight, how drawn he looks here ...

Barbie Psycho Video

Courtesy of whenyouronlytoolisahammer.blogspot - told you I'd credit you. Many thanxx!

Freddie Mercury - Living on my Own

This video was shot at his birthday party in Hamburg.

One hell of a party. That's all I can say ...

DJ Tutor.com (arguably) "defines (dance) musical genres"

Juno Reactor - God is God

This one's worth seeing. Not just hearing. You'll see what I mean ...

Karahana 97 Israel Trance Festival

Armin van Buuren: Trance 2

This is one of those techno-DJ-pop records designed to be played on musickal television, designed to be bought. They never played stuff like this in clubs in my day (except maybe the 2am-closing alcohol-based meat-market type clubs) bc of the poppy vocals. As I say, it was really music to sell albums and play in bars more than clubs of any "ravey" persuasion.

But the background as the tune starts to roll: highly reminiscent of Goa. I think the "musical genres instructor dj" would call this "Euro-pop" or summut like ...

DJ Tiesto Trance Sensation

I like this one because it's a pretty random cross-section of a rave ...

Lots of pretty blonde Dutch girls ...

Brand New Hammy

Little girl has just brought new hamster back from the shop. "I'm not sure whether it's a boy or a girl but I've called it 'Boo'."

Dusty Dwarf Chinese Hamster

Cute Chinese Dwarf Hamster Has Snack

Chinese Hamster

Sorry for the poor pixxelated image. That's how it came to me ...

Chinese Hamster Eating Yoghurt Drop

This one looks just like my hammy.

Hamster Dance

Chinese Children Punished in Hamster Balls

... floating down the river ...

High Speed Robbies

I'm actually looking for that loop the loop clip I had (somewhere) on my gledwood2 blog ... but where it is I have no idea ...

Robbies on Wheel

See how fast they are-!!

Thumblinker Loop-the-loop (5 secs)

Very short Roborovski clip.

Baby Roborovskis

Baby Roborovski hamsters (not the one I've got; mine's Chinese) 9-15 days old ...

The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode

While I was on the Tammy Wynette tip (see below) this one surely had to go in too ...

"E's are good! E's are good! It's Ebeneezer Goode!!" (Click for lyrics.)

Remember these scandalizing words from 1992??

Mr C is a serious DJ, co-owner of The End nightclub in central London.

His "Shamen" band was basically about psychedelic drugs and native rainforest peoples banging drums and tripping on ayahusca-type powdered vines...

Ebeneezer Goode was a novelty single designed to push their one & only 1992 album.

In the words of Bevis & Butthead: "it's from that country where everybody talks like a pussy".

Tammy Wynette - Justified & Ancient

KLF Featuring Tammy Wynette & the "Justified Ancients of Mu-Mu" - Justified & Ancient (Stand by the Jams)

This is an absolute cracker. "Ironic" 90s pop at its very best.

Who'd have thought it? Before the 1990s and "Generation E" kicked in, you'd ever hear Tammy Wynette warbling over a comedy pop track :: "They're justified and they're ancient and they drive an ice-cream van ..."

Note Burning Man Festival footage interspersed ...

Mine's a 99!

Trance Energy 2007 Trailer

Advertisement for a rave in Utrecht, Netherlands.

This is reminiscent of some of the nights I was going to 10 years ago ...

Pavement Art

This was labelled "terra trance" - but I've no idea why. "Trance" doesn't quite come into it. The video's quite captivating in its own way ...

Trance Energy

This is a cheesy even as trance goes :: but what the heck??!?

Carpenters - Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft

The Carpenters are associated by some with a kind of twee, middle of the road, nondangerous, easy-listening mediocrity.

This here track kinda breaks that mould.

Far as I know it's the original promo video ::

Madonna - Hung Up

Her legs are lovely and unblemished.

William Orbit - Barber's Adagio for Strings

This is the danced-up Ferry Corsten remix here. The best version I ever heard was a voice-only rendition performed by one of the Oxbridge choirs.

The visuals capture British urban architecture at it's most typical ...

(not the faceless office blocks; the gas towers etc and Battersea Power Station)

Is the oak tree in some way "symbolic"?

Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar

I know this from the 1998 version.

It reminds me of EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeing out in grotty subterranean dungeonous clubs with now-famous names like Frantic (which went to Melbourne, Aus, didn't it? Anyone?) Sunnyside Up (not famous, defunct. But oi! oi! for old time's sake.) & Pendragon & Samsara & all the rest.

There was one time in my life I lived for summer sunrising hallucinations like that this starts off with.

I think this tune is fantastic.

Disappointingly it's been de-energized till approx 2/3 of the way through. Only then will you hear what it's really about. It's meant to embody "sunrise" in musical form. With the waves of the sea lapping gently - hence "Cafe del Mar", which is a real place in Ibiza. Even if you find the drug-allusions sickening ("tripping in the morning") think of it as a celebration of the renewal of life. That is captured also.

Sinead - Rebel Song

In my opinion, this is one of her all time best. See what I mean about lullabies??

I know the video's not that good, but that's more than made up for by the quality of the music.

Take a close look at her appearance. Does it not beg the question WHY??!??! shave off all that hair, Sinead?? Why??!??!??

This song reminds me of who I was before I became a gutter heroin addict.

Sinead - You Made Me the Theif of Your Heart (Vid)

Not sure what I think of this one. But it sounds v Irish.

Sinead - Last Day of Our Acquaintance

This one reminds me of being depressed. In fact I was not going to include it at all. Brings back me - all summer - alone in a flat with no money, depressed out of my head, surviving on toast and marmelade ...

Sinead - Perfect Indian (Live)

This is perhaps my favourite Sinead track of all.

It's the lullabies she does best ...

Sinead - Don't Cry for Me Argentina

This one reminds me of being happy (mostly). I got the tape from a bootleg stall in Mamalapuram (outside Chennai/Madras) for £1.20. Best vocals for this track I've heard::

Sinead - Nothing Compares 2U

OK, now we're coming to the stuff I really like.

Sinead O'Connor: Nothing Compares 2u

(Note the brief "rave" outburst: Praga Khan - Injected with a Poison)

Pants on Fire!! How many lies?

When she's not behaving "uproariously" as in the Letterman interview below, Madonna usually comes over as in TV interviews pretty defensive - well I think so anyhow. See what you think of this clip. And do you agree with me?:: maybe she is telling 100% truth; but she does a pretty good impression of a woman lying at least 50% of the time ...

Weird Al Meets Madonna

Madonna Letterman 1994

Here's the famous/infamous David Letterman interview from the early 90s.

What shocks me most is how much like Sarah Jessica Parker's ugly sister she looks in this (21 minutes long) broadcast ...

Greetings!

And welcome to my great video blog!

Here you will find all manner of treats and entertainment. Soon as I find out how actually to embed that youtube screen ...

Here for my test post is some nutter's "pet hornet" eating honey off his hand ...
