Madonna: Santa Baby

MADONNA-SANTA BABY
Throw out any Madonna-preconceptions you might have, and you'll hear this is one of the best ever recordings of this song. You may well have heard this before, not even realizing who it was ...

Kinks: Days 1969

I don't know what show this is from or even what country they're performing in (though I'd guess America; British telly generally wasn't filmed in colour back then except for specials ~ pop was considered ephemera and the BBC famously had little or no sense of preserving taped performances for future generations. Their archives were seriously disorganized. Entire series featuring top stars of the day were wiped (e.g. Ronnie Barker did entire series which were wiped: The Navy Lark on radio and His Lordship Entertains on television (a single episode was recovered and broadcast in 2009)... Anyway: THE KINKS! ENJOY!!

Jackie Evancho on America's Got Talent..!

MY GOOD BLOGGER FRIEND SWEDEN passed on this link to me. From America's Got Talent; Jackie Evancho, a little girl with the voice of Maria Callas!

Suzanna Vega: Luka

Perfect ft Grace: Not Over Yet

I love this choon...

Goa-ish mix

Wet Yourself

FROM CLUB WET YOURSELF
In 2007, which shows how little dance music has changed...
Wet Yourself at the Aquarium is in Old Street, famous for Moorfields Eye Hospital (which is why I went down there last time) and City Roads crisis detox centre - somewhere I hope never ever to go again. It was the pits. They had to give me extra methadone, I was so sick.
Watching this video I can smell dry ice, which smells like stawberries, cigarettes (which shows when I last went out) and mixed perfumes... yumyumyummmy...
Something in me would like to go to a dance party "one last time"... ecstasy is like crack but way way nicer. And non-addictive. Ecstasy is the only drug I'd like to take with my Mum.

Acen: Close Your Eyes (Optokonfusion)

I REMEMBER THIS TUNE FROM 1991-2 when the style of music would have been called hardcore (rave).
Nowadays it's known as "old school" - which doesn't half make ME feel OLD...
If you want a bit of old rave music listen to this, it has all the gimmicks. Electronic voice telling you to "just close your eyes, forget your name, forget the world, forget the people... go insane"
And that slightly depressing vibe that fills a lot of electronica of the time.

Beagle Mix: I like the fractal on this one

Eric Whitacre: Lux Aurumque

Unusual modern choral track. I love good choir music:~

This, the Concorde Choir version, I reckon is sublime:

Michael Jackson: Give In To Me

I dunno why, but this track from MJ's Dangerous album (far better than Bad in my opinion) keeps going around and around my head.

Have a listen and a look:

Michael Jackson: Morphine

MICHAEL JACKSON: MORPHINE
... this ain't bad .....

Contains the line: Demerol, he's on Demerol. Ironic considering Michael was on more than just Demerol (pethidine) when he died ...

Celine Dion vs Mariah Carey vs Leona Lewis

I TEND TO MIX THESE SONGS UP BECAUSE THEY'RE BOTH ABOUT BEING LONELY:
Incidentally I think Whitney Houston knocks Carey out of the ballpark, and Barbra Streisand has a far nicer timbre than Dion. But there ya go...

As for Leona Lewis ~ how a girl with a voice like this ~ hear below ~ can record such average material that just does not show off her voice at all. I do not understand.

She performed these songs on the X-factor. Then they let her co-write her albums. Which makes her and her managers more money (a lot more), but that's all. The songs are nowhere near as good. But again, there you go...

But there you go...

WHICH DO YOU THINK IS BEST?

CELINE DION: ALL BY MYSELF

MARIAH CAREY: WITHOUT YOU

LEONA LEWIS: ALL BY MYSELF

LEONA LEWIS: WITHOUT YOU

GLEE TV SHOW ~ LIKE A PRAYER!

GLEE Club ~ there is no such thing as a Glee club here in the UK. I mean, I didn't even know "Glee" was a generic name for theatre groups till I accidentally fell across a passage in a Bette Davis biography that mentioned her own schooltime Glee associations... Here, "Glee" Club would be called the School Drama Society... Anyway, the TV show has been running here since late last year. I think the actress who plays Sue is amazing... some of the musical performances are pretty good too...

Glee cast: Like a Prayer (sound only) ...
