The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work

Brian Adams - Everthing I Do

Featured in the Kevin Costner film Robin Hood Prince of Theives, this is one of those songs that got plain annoying here in Britain. Because it hit number one and stayed there for over ten weeks. Which was very annoying.

Brian Adams - Heaven - Live in Lisbon

This is a live performing of the original which "DJ Sammy" (below) covered ...

DJ Sammy - We're in Heaven

For a long time on hearing this frequently as it rose and fell through the charts I thought I'd heard it somewhere before ... I was right. This is actually a cover of a BRIAN ADAMS track!! (See above!)

Cafe del Mar - Open Your Mind

Rob Thomas - Little Wonders

This came from a Disney film originally

but I came across it at a blog called True To My Thoughts.

I like this tune ...

Eamon - (F*** It) I Don't Want You Back / Frankee FURB (F*** U Right Back)

Eamon - (F*** It) I Don't Want You Back

This was dedicated to Eamon's ex-girlf Frankee, who reponded in kind by releasing the very same tune at the very same time! His got to number one, her's sadly peaked at number three. His is the better vocal.

Frankee - FURB (F*** U Right Back)

Frankee's one came out at the same time as Eamon's song (above). Maybe the video's better, but I think he put in a much better performance.

Bat for Lashes - What's a Girl to Do?

Isn't this Lily Allen? Or is it a joke? Or something? I never know this stuff ...

Sting - English Man In New York

Culture Club - Church of the Poison Mind

This was before Boy George poisoned his own mind with all those drugs!

Obie Trice - Got Some Teeth

I'm not that much into "hiphop" but this is my favourite "rap" video of all time:

Candyflip - Strawberry Fields For Ever

This is a 1990s Generation-E take on the famous 1960s song...

("Candyflip" means a drug coctail of LSD taken on top of MDMA ("ecstasy"))

Beatles - Strawberry Fields For Ever

Look at this home-made video. It looks so 1970s! (I know it was shot in the late 60s, but you know how fashions grow from a 60s seed into an early 70s hippie explosion!)

Tina Turner - Simply The Best

This is her best as well ...

Foreigner - I Wanna Know What Love Is

The "humming" introduction (what is that? a synthesized human voice? I haven't a clue) ... well that intro really got me ... couldn't for the life of me all morning figure what the tune was ... certainly not who it was by.

Finally I found it. Here goes. Powerballadtastic it is too!!

T'pau - China in Your Hand

This one went to number one in 1987 and sold more than any other single that year in the UK.

It featured heavily in last weekend's Power Ballad Sunday and has been circling round my brains ever since. I don't know why I'm posting up so much stuff that I find "annoying" ... but like most of it, I kinda like this one also ...

One radio DJ of the time said that T'pau were "like Margaret Thatcher; because everyone votes them in but no-one will admit to liking them..." Pretty good comparison, actually!

Michael Jackson - Liberian Girl

I think Liberian Girl is one of Michael Jackson's prettiest songs. Pretty being the operative word. Because it's musical candyfloss, as I'm sure the more puritanical musicologists among you will agree. Not worthy of the epithet beautiful; it is, nonetheless ... exceedingly pretty ...

Note how this "dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor" video contains all the great and the so-called "good" of the era ... circa 1989 ... including a particularly shrill Debbie Gibson ... Hollywood vulgarians the lot of them!

In fact so much attention is paid to the all-star cast of this video, the song's pracically drowned out behind their jabberings

have a look and see what you think

Madonna - Hanky Panky - Blonde Ambition Tour

Madonna - True Blue

This is a rare "treat" if you like Madonna. Because she dedicated this song to Sean Penn and because it reminds her so much of him, she has refused to perform it since the late 80s. Or to have it included in any video compilations or greatest hitses

Madonna - Deeper and Deeper

Madonna - Deeper and Deeper - Love Bizarre Mix

I've no idea whether this is an "official" video of her's or something a fan made (so hard to tell the difference these days!) ... but here we go:

Madonna - Like a Prayer (Original Promo Vid)

Along with Hung Up and Vogue, this is one of her all time best songs.

Madonna - Like a Prayer - Re-Invention

Madonna - Like a Prayer - Live 8

Madonna - Live Earth - Hey You

Madonna - Live Earth - Ray of Light

Madonna - La Isla Bonita (Better Sound Quality)

from Live Earth

This one has better sound than that above

Madonna - Live Earth - Hung Up

Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On

This is frequently given the honour of Most Annoying Record of All Time

To be honest I don't mind it (Whitney Houston's take on I Will Always Love You is far more irritating to me ...)

Of course the hit song (12 weeks at number one here in the UK) came from the hit movie Titanic who's stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio feature in the clips in this acompanying video...

Mariah Carey - Without You

(Personally I prefer the Celine Dion version (but I cannot find it to post that too))

Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You

This massive hit (which hit number one in Britain & reminaed there for about 12 weeks) often tops polls of Best Loved and Most Hated records of all time simultaneously. I don't mind it but it's not my favourite.

Came from the hit movie The Bodyguard, starring Kevin Costner

Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now

Starship ~ Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. Original video edit.

This massive 1980s number one hit single was taken from the film Mannequin ~ which, from the video looks like one hell of a movie ~ but to this day (even at Christmas time) I've never known it to be shown on British TV.

Notice who the "mannequin" is played by: Sex and the City's Kim Cattrel

She is starring opposite a guy whose face I know from a zillion films but never knew (before I just googled it) that he was called Andrew McCarthy ...
