Kinks: Days 1969

I don't know what show this is from or even what country they're performing in (though I'd guess America; British telly generally wasn't filmed in colour back then except for specials ~ pop was considered ephemera and the BBC famously had little or no sense of preserving taped performances for future generations. Their archives were seriously disorganized. Entire series featuring top stars of the day were wiped (e.g. Ronnie Barker did entire series which were wiped: The Navy Lark on radio and His Lordship Entertains on television (a single episode was recovered and broadcast in 2009)... Anyway: THE KINKS! ENJOY!!

Captain Sensible: Glad It's All Over

This one I remember from the time I used to see my Mum every other weekend and go driving back on Sunday night with the Bruno Brookes Top 40 (surely the top-rated radio show in British history... you could wander about and everybody'd have it on, late Sunday afternoons)... I presumed this song was about the aftermath of nuclear war. Seems to have been filmed in Camden Town (or does anyone know any better..?) It's a really good tune ...

Armin van Buuren: Trance 2

This is one of those techno-DJ-pop records designed to be played on musickal television, designed to be bought. They never played stuff like this in clubs in my day (except maybe the 2am-closing alcohol-based meat-market type clubs) bc of the poppy vocals. As I say, it was really music to sell albums and play in bars more than clubs of any "ravey" persuasion.

But the background as the tune starts to roll: highly reminiscent of Goa. I think the "musical genres instructor dj" would call this "Euro-pop" or summut like ...
